PG Productions Vocal Studio

THE COMPANY:

P.G. Productions is a dynamic and progressive company that specializes in offering vocal and performance training, developing and coordinating artistic projects, educational outreach programs, talent showcases and music productions for the purpose of empowering and serving various communities across Canada.

MISSION STATEMENT:

In this turbulent era of political unrest, economic instability, social change and the prevalent conditions of exploitation in the music and entertainment industry, PG Productions values, objectives and business practices are established by a principal concept of “giving so that others can give”. This innovative and revolutionary foundation provides PG Productions the opportunity to create programs, products and services that will help equip the community to use their talents to generate positive changes in their lives.

C.E.O PROFILE:

Miss G is the founder, creative director and chief operating manager of PG Productions. She has impressive leadership abilities to guide the company towards its long-term goals and objectives because of her education, work and performance experience.

Paula grew up in Toronto, the most culturally diverse city in Canada and she drew from a rich musical heritage closely tied to West Indian roots--- including a Gospel soloist grandmother, a Jazz composer and bandleader grandfather and an aunt who was acclaimed to be Barbados’ most famous concert pianist. Her mother also sang Gospel music. She has a twin brother who is a Hip Hop/R&B producer and C.E.O of Five Star Entertainment as well as personal D.J. for Sony BMG’s latest Reggae star Collie Buddz. As Paula was influenced by both traditional and contemporary musicians and artistic expressions in the family, she began to discover her own singing and musical talents.  She started writing songs and playing piano at an early age and improved creatively by studying dance in the styles of tap and modern jazz. Many years of dance training in tap, jazz and hip hop enhanced Paula’s movement and rhythm in performance and highlighted the emotion in her interpretation of a song. As a result she won many awards and accolades for artistic ability and was recruited by many teachers to pursue enrichment studies at art schools in Canada and the United States.

BEGINNING PRINCIPLES:

Paula’s concept of PG productions started developing when, at a very young age; she organized and performed in a Third World benefit concert to help acquire food and medical supplies for children in Africa and India. This experience made her aware of the grave social conditions in communities around the world.  She wanted to encourage and provide hope to the human struggle.

At school she became President of a touring performance company called C.Y.A.P (Canadian Youth Awareness Program) that traveled to Toronto schools promoting racial harmony and tolerance. As a result of her confidence, excellent communication, leadership and teambuilding qualities, she received The Scarborough Alexander Sterling Arts Award, the Ontario Business Institute Award and was a special guest at the YMCA Youth Achievement Awards. From this time on Paula began to develop a deep personal faith and a love for Gospel music.

She finally realized that the medium of song was the kind of ‘voice’ to which the deepest joys, trials and inspiration of life could be communicated.  She decided to hone her voice by training diligently with a prominent voice teacher who was a member of the New York Opera Company for twenty years and who performed in the Phantom of the Opera. With a classically skilled voice, she now possessed a vocal style that enabled her to go from R&B to Adult Contemporary and from Gospel to Jazz.

As she continued to develop her craft and perform in major cities across Canada, the West Indies and the United States, audiences were moved by how she would interpret a song with jazz like sensibility, gospel fervor, and folk-like purity with a blues touch. Paula would soon enter various talent competitions and was a finalist in an Ontario wide regional competition called The Vox Talent Search and a group winner in a Toronto based Canadian Apollo talent show. She gained more performing experience as she entered television and film where her credits include national Canadian and American commercials. She was a featured artist in a Toronto Wonder Women’s festival at the Reverb and other well-known venues in the city such as The Hummingbird Center, The Liberty Grand, CNE and Massy Hall. She has performed with “Speech” formally known from the Grammy award winning group “Arrested Development” and worked with Juno award winner Liberty Silver as well as Grammy nominated soul singer Jill Scott. She has also sung in a tribute concert for producer Quincy Jones.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

Paula continued to donate her talents to various charities in the community such as Charity Trust, Royal Bank’s meals on Wheels program and other international outreach organizations like H.O.P.E World Wide Canada. She is a graduate of the University of Toronto in Political Science with minor concentration in English, Theatre Arts and Women issues.  With her education and natural aptitude for the arts and business, Paula worked in a variety of positions such as supervisor for Toronto Harbourfront Centre a non-profit organization, a program director at the University of Toronto Children’s Camp and a teacher for Sheltoons LTD an extra-curricular and enrichment art programs provider. Paula expanded her business experience in the banking industry where she managed small business loans, conditional sales and mortgage portfolios. After this she returned to her artistic roots and worked as an educational resource assistant at the KMH Group in Toronto where she would assist operative managers for tourism and educational programs for North American schools ranging from elementary grades to OAC level. She has been active in organizing campaigns and fundraising for various productions and festivals hosted by KMH. She also supervised educational tours of major productions such as the Lion King and Mamma Mia.

P.G. PRODUCTIONS INAUGARATION:

As an artist Miss G understood the difficulty of breaking through the Canadian and International markets and felt strongly about creating a community and support group from among other fellow artists along her journey. She teamed up with Medic Canada and helped direct a talent, fashion and musical production called “Stars of the Universe” that featured over 100 performers. This new series was set up to showcase talent in Canada and provide funds for independent artists to pursue their dreams. It was a musical extravaganza that was one of the first of its kind in Toronto. All races and genres of music have been collectively involved and mixed to help create the PG productions fundamental concept of giving and helping one another. “Gemini” from Flow 93.5 was the first recipient of the Canadian Achievement awards and many of the artists gained experience as a result of the show. Some have gone on to do notable work such as being featured performers in the motion picture “Honey”, in music videos, and in television shows aired in Canada, Germany and the United States. After these milestones, Paula realized that her education, work, and talents should be pooled together for a more focused purpose.

PG PRODUCTIONS 2009:

Paula has come to realize that the words “artist’ and ‘teacher”, even if self-proclaimed is a serious charge. She believes that history demonstrates how her ancestors and mentors were used as instruments not just to entertain but to raise the consciousness of the world to a higher ground and evoke a spiritual change for the betterment of humanity.  This new internal revolution helped Paula to create a company that would stand for passion, excitement and commitment to a greater cause. Her current vision is to provide vocal training programs, alternative learning centers, outreach educational programs, touring companies, musical productions and multi-media products across Canada.
